Rainy Day Blues

I know I am not alone in thinking throughout winter how wonderful spring will be. It is human nature to long for the next season. The fun part of this time of year is that I get to wear a green suede coat that only works for 3 or 4 weeks at the beginning of spring and the beginning of autumn. This coat hardly ever wears out and I have owned it for several decades. It gets so little play and is exciting to wear every single time. It gets lots of compliments. But suede is unsuited for spring’s rain. It rained nearly all week. Instead, I have a blue rain coat that is almost a tent and not gracious the way my subtle green suede coat is gracious; plus this blue is bright blue. So my fellow NYer’s shied their eyes when I enter a subway car too early in the morning for their retinas to absorb that much intense color. It sort of makes we smile to wear it too since it makes me as big as a billboard, there is not need for an umbrella and it rattles like distant thunder as I walk. However I truly yearn for summer and the beach. I feel lucky that Coney Island is only a 50 minute train ride and then I get to stroll along the boardwalk. It is almost like a vacation wearing no coat at all. I enjoy watching people and am drawn to amusements. Just thinking about taking a few rides help me combat my cabin fever with another week of rain predicted ahead.
